Western Zhou Dynasty Jade Necklace

Feast your eyes on this Western Zhou Dynasty Jade Necklace (very few intact from excavation) with beads made of other materials like turquoise, agate and glass. Excavated from the Pingdingshan (平顶山) City Ying Guo Mu in Henan, China, this set is currently part of the Henan Provincial Museum collection.  Beyond the aesthetic appeal, wearing such ornaments reflect different social statuses during the period.

The jade pendant was carved with Twin Dragons at the top and Twin Baby Dragons or Phoenixes below.

  1. What museum or website is this off?? Looks like the right material for early Zhou but i dont like the light coloured carving lines and doesnt appear to have been carved with the skill one would expect…. Without an excavation report I would call this fake (Or gaofang museum quality reproduction) Even the way of carving is subtly off for the Zhou dynasty

    • The cup is so full and overflowing. Thanks for helping me understand the reason behind your obsession with Song-Qing Jade pieces. Sometimes, it is better to stick to your limits until one becomes more mature and open minded. Just to share, over at Asian Art Forum, the childish act of an unknown (hoping to hide behind a silly name but forgot that his IP address was fixed) contributor “A” posting a random thread which actually aims to subtly mock this other level headed contributor “S”. Due to a fierce debate previously and subsequent little or no response to later discussions/comments by self-conceited “A”, he/she digs out old posts of active Chinese Jade contributors and floods them like a neglected baby seeking attention. Not cute at all.
