Been a while since we had brunch over the weekend. Suggested a few places and it did not take long for us settle on La Barca. Apparently, the two head chefs share a one Michelin Star restaurant, successful B&B and a cooking school (source: The Honeycombers). However, there were mixed reviews for La Barca on hungrygowhere and I was a little concerned on our way there.
Finding La Barca was not straightforward, but signs within Goodman Arts Centre made the search a lot easier.
We were right on time for the 11:00am reservation and only the second table to be seated. Do make reservations ahead if you intend to drop by around 12:00-2:30pm because it was almost full (inside) as the crowd arrived at noon.
Looking at the Brunch menu http://labarca-sg.com/our-menu/brunch/, we ordered the MOZZARELLA IN CARROZZA – ITALIAN “FRENCH” TOAST (BOTTOM RIGHT), IL RISOTTO MANTECATO CON PESCE FRESCO (TOP) and PIZZA SALSICCIA PICCANTE (BOTTOM LEFT).
Pizza lovers will not be disappointed by the thin crust PIZZA SALSICCIA PICCANTE’s combination of tomato, mozzarella and homemade spicy pork sausage. Do not let the looks of MOZZARELLA IN CARROZZA – ITALIAN “FRENCH” TOAST deceive you, they were very tasty both individually and when combined with each other. On the other hand, the IL RISOTTO MANTECATO CON PESCE FRESCO (seafood risotto) was a little too al dente and dry for my liking, but overall flavours were okay with a good portion of seafood. The coffee was pretty good according to Val and she loved her Caffe Latte. Total bill came up to around S$77.00, after 10% discount with Citibank cards, for 3 mains and 3 beverages.
I will return for the other pizzas and HAMBURGER ALL’ITALIANA – ITALIAN HAMBURGER very soon!
